TIDIER Interpret Results

For each split (term) resulting from TIDIER splitting, the format of the results is as follows:

[ Split | Root of split ]{ Score: Distance, Position, From, To}

where:
  • Split: a term that has been provided by TIDIER splitter;
  • Root of split: word from where the term has been derived;
  • Distance: minimum string-edit distance between the term and dictionary words;
  • Position: position of the word in the dictionary;
  • From: start position of the term in the identifier to be splitted;
  • To: end position of the term in the identifier to be splitted.
Example:

Let's suppose that the identifier to split is: imageptr . The result of TIDIER using an application dictionary enriched by abbreviations and acronyms is:

imageptr = [ image | image ]{ Score: 0.0,156485,1,5} [ ptr | pointer: ]{ Score: 0.0,113,6,8}

This result is interpreted as follows:
  • The identifier imageptr has been splitted into two terms: image and ptr and then image was mapped to image and ptr to pointer.
  • The term image is a term that belongs to the used dictionary. Hence, its score (minimum string-edit distance) is equal to zero;
  • The term ptr is an abbreviation that belongs to the list of known abbreviations. Hence, its score (minimum string-edit distance) is equal to zero;
  • The position of image in the used dictionary is 156485;
  • The position of pointer is 113;
  • The start and end positions of the term image in the identifier imageptr are respectively one (position of character i) and five (position of character e);
  • The start and end positions of the term ptr in the identifier imageptr are respectively six (position of character p) and eight (position of character r);
